How to Enable Administrator Account in Vista Home Premium ?
Restart your PC in Safe Mode with Networking from boot menu (press f8 when compter starts)
Log onto personal account with admin access.
goto command prompt (start > run > cmd)
type
net user administrator /active
This should enable admin account.

You can also shift-click on the Command Prompt start menu item (under accessories for those who don’t know) and select Run as Administrator. Then you can repeat the above command without having to reboot your PC.

Aseem that only works for Vista Ultimate. Vista Home Premium doesnt have Local Users and Groups in Computer Management.

you can also start cmd as administrator without using safe mode. Just type cmd in the start menu search box, then instead of hitting enter, rt+click the cmd entry and select run as administrator.

Nice tip. I do prefer, however, this little utility that allows me to do this without having to deal with the command line or multiple steps. I didn’t mind paying the 99 cents (it’s a convenience thing, I pay more for a cup of coffee):

I tried the info given to unlock account on vista home premium, and it comes up with
The syntax of this command is:
NET USER
[username [password : *] [options]] [/DOMAIN]

username [/DELETE] [/DOMAIN]
username [/TIMES:{times : ALL]
C:\Windows\system32>
Is there something else I should type in because when I log off, the Administrator account isnt there, it only has my personal accounts.

Here’s a tip (kinda funny really)
Watch the syntax as you should use
net user administrator /active:yes
to enable the account, whereas
net user administrator active:yes
sets the password to … “active:yes”
Took me a while to figure this out!

Hi There,
Windows Vista Home Premium does not have Local User and Local Group Managment.
To enable the in-build Administrator account…
(WARINING: Not Recommended for Security Reasons)
Click on the Vista Start ICON or such,
Type: cmd
~DO NOT CLICK ENTER~
Press CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER
Allow the User account control managment…
Type: net user administrator /active:yes
^^Enable the Admin Account
“net user administrator /active:no
^^Disable Admin account
Logon to Administrator, you will have ‘weird’ access to your operating system,
This is because you are part of your ‘SYSTEM’.

hey . k someone changed my laptop password . i use home premium . so i dont have an admin account and i never enabled it. and when ever i go into safe mode it just brings me back to the log in screen but the only difference is that the screen view is wider. i dont know what to do.. plz help. is there a way i can enable the admin account without going in my account.. because basically i cant. because its the only account in the computer.. plz if you do have a way. email me.. plzzz…

Hello I have some tips to YOU all !!
If you own different language Windows than default english !!
Open you cmd.exe with administrator rights (mouse2 select/run or short keys ctrl+shift+enter) that there read your language word “administrator” upper+left DOS-promp window panel !
Keep this “different language admin word” in mind !
Then type dos line (KEEP attention) :
net user (your-language-admin-word) /active:yes
example finnish version Windows:
net user Järjestelmänvalvoja /active:yes
Then if not appeard any error message, restart PC and you have two account. Default account and Administrator.
